💡 Hot outside and cool inside is a contrast, so 却. 也 would mean the same as outside.

After the medicine, his illness didn't get better; instead it got worse.
💡 不但没……，反而…… gives the opposite of what you expected.
和上个月比起来，我的成绩进步了不少。

💡 比起来 needs 和 (or 跟) in front of what you compare with.

💡 不再……而是…… shows a change from one thing to another.

💡 却 needs the opposite of 热闹 (busy): 冷清 (quiet, deserted).

I thought this question would be hard; to my surprise I worked it out straight away.
💡 以为 (wrongly thought) … 没想到 (didn't expect) shows the surprise.
弟弟做错了事，不但不道歉，反而怪别人。
dì di zuò cuò le shì bú dàn bú dào qiàn fǎn ér guài bié rén
My little brother did something wrong, and instead of saying sorry, he blamed others.
💡 反而 brings the opposite of saying sorry: 怪 (blaming) others.

The old flat was small and dark, but the new flat is big and bright.
💡 却 sets the new flat against the old: 暗 (dark) becomes 亮 (bright).
三、改病句 Correct the sentence

💡 却 is for something unexpected; working hard and doing well is expected, so use 果然 (as expected).
病句：雨不但没停，而且反而越下越大。
