全文 The whole story, with pinyin and English
fàng jià de shí hou yé ye jiāo wǒ xià xiàng qí tā shuō xiàng qí lǐ yǒu hěn duō xué wen
During the holidays, Grandpa taught me Chinese chess. He said there is a lot to learn in chess.
hóng sè de qí zǐ guī wǒ hēi sè de qí zǐ guī yé ye jū mǎ pào gè yǒu gè de zǒu fǎ
The red pieces were mine and the black pieces were Grandpa's. The chariot, the horse and the cannon each move in their own way.
dì yī pán qí wǒ zhǐ zǒu le shí jǐ bù jiù bèi yé ye jiāng jūn le
In the first game, I had made only a dozen or so moves when Grandpa put my general in check.
wǒ yì lián shū le wǔ pán qì de xiǎng bǎ qí pán tuī kāi zài yě bù wán le
I lost five games in a row. I was so angry that I wanted to push the chessboard away and never play again.
yé ye xiào zhe shuō xià qí bù néng xīn jí měi zǒu yí bù dōu yào xiān xiǎng xiang duì fāng huì zěn me zǒu
Grandpa smiled and said, “You can't be impatient in chess. Before every move, think first about how the other player will move.”
cóng nà yǐ hòu wǒ xià qí shí bú zài jí jí máng máng ér shì màn màn de sī kǎo měi yí bù
From then on, I no longer rushed when I played. Instead, I thought carefully about every move.
yí gè xīng qī hòu wǒ hé yé ye xià le yì pán hěn jīng cǎi de qí zuì hòu zhǐ chà yí bù jiù yíng le
A week later, Grandpa and I played a really exciting game. In the end, I was just one move away from winning.
yé ye shù qǐ dà mǔ zhǐ shuō nǐ jìn bù le wǒ míng bai le zuò shì yào yǒu nài xīn bù néng jí yú qiú chéng
Grandpa gave me a thumbs-up and said, “You've improved!” I understood that you need patience to do things well, and must not rush to succeed.
