全文 The whole story, with pinyin and English
jīn tiān shì mā ma de shēng rì wǒ xiǎng qīn shǒu zuò yì pán chǎo fàn gěi tā yí gè jīng xǐ
Today was Mum's birthday. I wanted to make a plate of fried rice myself, to give her a surprise.
bà ba zài páng biān jiāo wǒ xiān bǎ jī dàn dǎ sàn zài bǎ gé yè fàn zhǔn bèi hǎo
Dad stood beside me and showed me how: first beat the eggs, then get the leftover rice ready.
yóu yí rè wǒ bǎ dàn yè dào jìn guō lǐ zī de yì shēng yóu huā jiàn le chū lái xià le wǒ yí tiào
As soon as the oil was hot, I poured the egg into the wok. With a loud “sizzle”, oil splashed out and gave me a fright.
wǒ méi yǒu fàng qì jì shàng bà ba de wéi qún shǒu máng jiǎo luàn de bǎ fàn hé jī dàn chǎo zài yì qǐ
I didn't give up. I tied on Dad's apron and, in a great rush, stir-fried the rice and egg together.
zuì hòu wǒ sǎ le yì diǎn yán hé cōng huā yì pán xiāng pēn pēn de dàn chǎo fàn zhōng yú zuò hǎo le
Finally I sprinkled on a little salt and chopped spring onion, and a plate of sweet-smelling egg fried rice was ready at last.
wǎn fàn de shí hou wǒ bǎ chǎo fàn duān dào mā ma miàn qián dà shēng shuō mā ma shēng rì kuài lè
At dinner, I carried the fried rice over to Mum and said loudly, “Happy birthday, Mum!”
mā ma cháng le yì kǒu xiào zhe shuō wā yǒu yì diǎn xián bú guò zhè shì wǒ chī guò zuì hǎo chī de chǎo fàn
Mum took a bite and said with a smile, “Wow, it's a little salty, but this is the best fried rice I've ever eaten!”
quán jiā rén dōu kuā wǒ zhǎng dà le wǒ jué de zhè shì sòng gěi mā ma zuì tè bié de shēng rì lǐ wù
The whole family said I had grown up, and I felt it was the most special birthday present I could give Mum.
