全文 The whole story, with pinyin and English

Tú yāo jié dào le wǒ de Yìn dù tóng xué Pǔ lì yǎ yāo qǐng wǒ dào tā jiā zuò kè

Deepavali had come, and my Indian classmate Priya invited me to visit her home.

yì zǒu jìn tā jiā wǒ jiù kàn jiàn mén kǒu de dì shàng yǒu yì fú sè cǎi bīn fēn de cǎi mǐ huà

As soon as I walked into her home, I saw a colourful kolam on the ground at the door.

Pǔ lì yǎ de mā ma chuān zhe piào liang de shā lì xiào zhe huān yíng wǒ men

Priya's mum, wearing a beautiful sari, welcomed us with a smile.

wū zi lǐ diǎn zhe xǔ duō xiǎo yóu dēng yì shǎn yì shǎn de hǎo xiàng tiān shàng de xīng xing

Lots of little oil lamps were lit around the house. They twinkled like stars in the sky.

tā men ná chū gè zhǒng gè yàng de Yìn dù tián diǎn qǐng wǒ chī yǒu de yuán yuán de yǒu de shì líng xíng de

They brought out all kinds of Indian sweets for me to try. Some were round, and some were diamond-shaped.

wǒ cháng le yí kuài tián de bù dé liǎo rěn bu zhù shù qǐ le dà mǔ zhǐ

I tried a piece. It was ever so sweet, and I couldn't help giving a thumbs-up.

wǎn shang wǒ men yì qǐ qù Xiǎo Yìn dù kàn dēng shì zhěng tiáo jiē dēng huǒ huī huáng

In the evening we all went to Little India to see the light-up. The whole street was ablaze with lights.

Pǔ lì yǎ gào su wǒ Tú yāo jié xiàng zhēng zhe guāng míng zhàn shèng hēi àn shàn liáng zhàn shèng xié è

Priya told me that Deepavali stands for light winning over darkness, and good winning over evil.
