全文 The whole story, with pinyin and English
zhōu mò nǎi nai jiāo wǒ bāo jiǎo zi
At the weekend, Grandma taught me how to make dumplings.
zhuō zi shàng yǒu yí dà wǎn ròu xiàn hái yǒu yì dié yuán yuán de jiǎo zi pí
On the table was a big bowl of meat filling and a stack of round dumpling wrappers.
nǎi nai bǎ xiàn fàng zài pí shàng qīng qīng yì niē jiǎo zi jiù bāo hǎo le
Grandma put some filling on a wrapper, gave it a gentle pinch, and the dumpling was done.
wǒ yě xué zhe bāo kě shì wǒ de jiǎo zi wāi wāi de xiàng yì zhī xiǎo wū guī
I tried it too, but my dumpling came out all crooked — it looked like a little turtle.
nǎi nai xiào zhe shuō méi guān xi yàng zi bú zhòng yào hǎo chī jiù xíng
Grandma smiled and said, “Never mind. How it looks isn't important — as long as it tastes good!”
wǒ men bǎ jiǎo zi fàng jìn guō lǐ zhǔ guō lǐ mào chū bái bái de rè qì
We put the dumplings in the pot to boil, and white steam puffed out of it.
jiǎo zi zhǔ hǎo le yí gè gè yòu bái yòu pàng xiāng jí le
The dumplings were ready — every one plump and white, and they smelled wonderful.
wǒ yì kǒu yǎo xià qù yí zhèng hǎo shì wǒ bāo de xiǎo wū guī
I took a big bite and — huh? — it was the very “little turtle” I had made!
