星期天下午，我在柜子里找到一本又旧又厚的相册，就拿去问爷爷。
xīng qī tiān xià wǔ wǒ zài guì zi lǐ zhǎo dào yì běn yòu jiù yòu hòu de xiàng cè jiù ná qù wèn yé ye
On Sunday afternoon, I found an old, thick photo album in the cupboard, so I took it to ask Grandpa about it.
爷爷翻开第一页，指着一间高脚屋说：“这是我小时候住的甘榜。”
yé ye fān kāi dì yī yè zhǐ zhe yì jiān gāo jiǎo wū shuō zhè shì wǒ xiǎo shí hou zhù de gān bǎng
Grandpa opened the first page, pointed at a house on stilts and said, “This is the kampung I lived in when I was little.”
那时候没有自来水，大家要到井边打水，晚上还要点煤油灯。
nà shí hou méi yǒu zì lái shuǐ dà jiā yào dào jǐng biān dǎ shuǐ wǎn shang hái yào diǎn méi yóu dēng
In those days there was no tap water. Everyone had to fetch water from the well, and at night they had to light kerosene lamps.
下一页的照片里是一条热闹的河，河上挤满了小船，岸边有很多人在搬货。

The photo on the next page showed a busy river crowded with small boats, and lots of people were carrying goods on the bank.
爷爷说，他十四岁就出来工作，每天踩三轮车载客，又辛苦又危险。

Grandpa said he started working at fourteen. Every day he pedalled a trishaw to carry passengers; it was hard and dangerous work.
我听了很惊讶，原来今天的好日子，是爷爷那一代人辛辛苦苦换来的。

I was amazed to hear it. So our good life today was earned by the hard work of Grandpa's generation.
